A small children's pool, or a massive dog water dispenser, tiled in an algorithmic spiral.
Spiral is a small children’s pool. Or a massive dog water dispenser, depending on who gets there first.
Françoise Lombaers and I made it for Shifting Ground · A Garden Party, the second edition of the group show that Studio Minimètre organises at Usquare during Brussels Design Week. A garden party needs somewhere to cool your feet, so we built one.
The pool is part of Tesselles, our ongoing collaboration between mosaic craft and computation. The pattern is generated by an algorithm that winds a single spiral from the centre outwards, and Françoise laid it tile by tile.
Thanks to Studio Minimètre, Alix Nicolas, Béatrice Vancaillie and Bérénice de Salvatore for putting the show together again this year, and to Usquare and Brussels Design Week for hosting it.
